Case study - Gladesmore Community School -  Proverbs Perfect Prefects
Article written in the prestigious Times Education Supplement 12/11/04

We ran a series of self-awareness workshops in the school, designed to support school prefects  increase their self-awareness preparing them with life skills that will be used in their role as prefe cts and later life. We used a range of activities based on the ‘Things Mama Used to Say’ philosophy - Getting from knowledge to Action. The benefit for the school is that these prefects became more open to speak in a group setting and were able to discuss their fears, anxiety and concerns confidently amongst their peers.

Also recognising those key skills that they needed to develop in their leadership role as prefects. The proverb cards were used for games and icebreakers with laughter as the ideal vehicle to facilitate their learning about the importance of commitment, determination, perseverance, hard work, conflict resolution, cooperation and diversity as a prefect. To reflect the cultural heritage and the diversity of the group we also  used  proverbs from Ghana, India, England and Ireland demonstrating their universal useage.
