Lorlett Hudson recently attended the Nordic Business Forum in Sweden with presentations by author & blogger Seth Godin, and Steve Wozniak, co-founder of Apple. Representing One Hand Cant Clap, Lorlett had the opportunity to highlight the Things Mama Used to Say proverb cards, a unique learning tool with Ancient Proverbs written on Flashcards, by speaking with Andrew Mitchell of Woodlawn Post. STOCKHOLM, SWEDEN – The usage of Flashcards as an educational tool dates back to at least the 19th century, with Reading Disentangled (1834), a set of phonics flashcards by English educator Favell Lee Mortimer being credited by some as the first flashcards. They serve as positive application of the testing effect – finding that long-term memory is increased when some of the learning period is devoted to retrieving the information through testing with proper feedback. For One Hand Cant Clap’s Founder and Manager, Lorlett Hudson, she has discovered a unique and effective use for flashcards while building and developing leadership with “Things Mama Used To Say” – a box set containing 52 snippets of Jamaican cultural expression.
The cards are ideal for use in educational settings to inspire creativity or reinforce valuable life lessons, with each quote written to provide inspiration for the leadership journey. To date, she has sold over 15,000 box sets worldwide since launching in 2004. A single set of 52 snippets cost 14.99 British pounds. Her pioneering approach has resulted in several honours including, winning the Silver Award of the prestigious British Female Inventors & Innovators Awards, and Wavemakers National Awards. She also scored runner up in the National Training Awards while serving as a Member of Courvoisier The Future 500 top talents in the UK. “It has always been there for me, but I never paid much attention to it early on in my life,” said Lorlett Hudson, Founder and Managing Director, One Hand Cant Clap from the Nordic Business Forum in Stockholm, Sweden. “I’ve always been a trailblazer and had a "make it happen" attitude, so leadership has come natural for me. I’ve always had the drive to want to succeed in life.” The “Things Mama Used To Say” box set, is just one of the successful components of London based company, One Hand Cant Clap. Lorlett Hudson, who holds a BA in Mass Communication and Post graduate degree from London Metropolitan University, looks to develop leaders by nurturing them in an environment where they are able to build confidence, while learning from their mistakes. “I just want to transform the quality of life for people so that they can see endless possibilities in life,” said Lorlett Hudson from the Nordic Business Forum in Stockholm, Sweden. “Build up people’s confidence so that they can perform at all levels.” The building of confidence in others is something she learned from her grandmother, who instilled confidence in her at a young age with her entrepreneurial “Make It Happen” spirit. “My grandmother served as my educational foundation,” said Lorlett Hudson one of the VIP attendees at the Nordic Business Forum in Stockholm, Sweden. “She gave me the confidence to be an entrepreneur and to understand the community is important and that the saying, "It takes a village to raise a child" can be used in an educational manner with ancient Jamaican Proverbs.” Evolution in leadership requires higher education, constant learning and creating different ways to achieve results. As for Lorlett Hudson, who attended the “Lead Lean” themed Nordic Business Forum in Stockholm, Sweden this past week, she feels the need to remain sharp in order to provide the proper learning and development to her clients. “Coming to the Nordic Business Forum is all about learning and developing for me,” said Lorlett Hudson. “It’s just one piece of advice that I always tell people. Keep learning, keep developing and stay in tune with what’s happening so that you can apply these things to your everyday life. Also, learn the skill of networking. That is some of the best sound advice that my mentor gave me.” One Hand Cant Clap’s Founder and Manager, Lorlett Hudson, will be hosting The Confidence Factor forum on February 24, 2018 at the Grange Fitzrovia Hotel in London from 9.30am - 1pm.
